The Gastro Clinic of Acadiana is excited to offer a new non-surgical treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) called Stretta. GERD symptoms can vary and include heartburn, regurgitation, chest pain, swallowing problems, asthma or chronic cough and laryngitis. GERD is a treatable condition and is most commonly treated with medications.

If you suffer from GERD a variety of options are available including dietary modification and medications progressing to anti-reflux surgery in severe cases. If dietary modification and medications have not adequately controlled your symptoms, if you do not tolerate reflux medications or if you do not wish to take daily GERD medications, you may be a candidate for the Stretta procedure.

This minimally invasive non-surgical procedure, which you will be sedated, is performed with an endoscope that is inserted through the mouth into the esophagus. Radiofrequency energy is used to strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter which is responsible for allowing stomach contents to reflux/enter the esophagus. The procedure can be performed in under an hour and most patients resume their usual activity the following day.

Our group has the most experience with the Stretta procedure in all of Acadiana. Should you be interested in learning more about the Stretta procedure or the diagnosis and management of GERD, please call (337) 232-6697 to make an appointment. We are excited to offer this to our patients and are here to help.

Sincerely,

The Physicians of The Gastro Clinic of Acadiana
