Digitrapper pH-Z Monitoring

Overview

Digitrapper pH-Z Monitoring is a test that measures how often and how long stomach acid flows into the esophagus during the testing period. It is important to understand the frequency and duration of reflux to determine if you have GERD, gastroesophageal reflux disease. This test will help differentiate acid reflux from non-acid reflux because treatment options may be different. This study is performed by placing a small tube through your nostril and placing it in the lower part of the esophagus. The external end will be attached to a small recorder worn on your belt or a shoulder strap. No sedation is required and you may drive home. The recorder will collect data for 24 hours. You will return the recorder the next day and your gastroenterologist will read the data and prescribe treatment. This test is usually done in the clinic.
